After serving Memphis for 28 years we are now closed for business as of Friday 9/2/22. Although we must close our doors, we are proud to leave on a high note as one of the highest rated TV shops in Memphis. Thank you to everyone who has ever brought us a TV, you have allowed us to do what we love for all these years and we are grateful to have gotten the opportunity to serve you. We’d also like to take this time to congratulate Larry Gillis on his retirement after 54 years in Electronics Repair!

At Gillis TV we believe that quality work and good service at an affordable price is extremely important. We will work hard to keep you satisfied. We’ll always be completely honest with you even if the news is grim because we are not out to collect money on sets we know can not be fixed.

That is why we say honest opinions are FREE OF CHARGE!

**The price of TVs has been dropping rapidly since 2015. In turn it has become much more cost effective to bring less expensive sets to the shop. Before servicing your set we will discuss the most cost effective options and determine what makes the most sense for your repair.

Our in-shop service fee is only $60 and it is subtracted from the final bill. If the set is deemed unrepairable this fee will cover shipping and restocking fees for part returns as well as our time spent diagnosing and researching your issue.

Frequently Ask Questions

• I have a TV with a cracked screen. How much does it cost to replace it?

This is a repair no shop is going to be able to do because the screens are not widely available for purchase and they are extremely expensive. The very few times I have seen them for sale they range from $500-1200 and the price is usually really close to the full cost of the TV. For this reason we do not repair these.

• How much will it cost for you to come to my home and look at my TV?

We are one of the last shops that still does true in home service. Although it may not be financially viable in all cases. We encourage most customers to bring their TV to us because the “in shop” diagnostic/check out fee is only $60 and it is subtracted from the final bill which is much cheaper than in home service. The cost for in home repairs is typically about $100 higher. We do understand that some sets are just too heavy or the customer may simply prefer in home service and in these cases we will gladly take the job!

• There are dark spots in my picture (picture flashes on & off, or sound with no pic) can you fix it?

If the TV in question is an LED set then most likely you have some bad LED strips inside your screen causing this problem. It is extremely common across all LED tvs, especially those made between 2012-2016. This issue will require you to bring the TV to our shop because this is a long and delicate repair that requires major precautions and plenty of space. In most LGs and Samsungs we are able to do this repair for somewhere between $150-250 depending on the size of the set and the number of LED strips that are needed. As for other models it requires a little more research because the LED strips are not as widely available and with some Vizio models they glue the screens down making them difficult to fix without cracking the screen. Give us a call at 901-496-8181 and we can discuss your set.

• I have a Mitsubishi TV (or any DLP) and it won’t come on and the light on the front is blinking. What is wrong with my TV?

In most cases you probably have a bad lamp. If you want to give it a shot our lamps are $100 (unless its a Toshiba, they are $150) and we guarantee our DLP lamps for 6 months. This is normally meant to be a customer repair. Unplug your TV and give the lamp a few minutes to cool off then find the lamp door on the bottom back side of your TV (it should be square shaped). It only has one 1 or 2 screws in it and the lamp may have 1 or 2 as well but afterwards it simply slides out with a handle so that you can bring it to us and swap out the bad bulb for a good one. If you would like us to come to you and install the lamp then it is typically about $100 more for in-home service. I would encourage you to look at some DLP lamp replacement videos on YouTube before you ask us to come do it because it will save you a lot of money and most customers are really surprised when they see how easy it is. Sometimes though we may run into other issues with these DLP sets and we will encourage you to bring them in. Because if the lamp doesn’t fix it then it will probably require us to order a color wheel or a ballast.
